What is WordPress?
WordPress is a free web publishing tool that powers millions of sites (big and small!) around the globe. Originally created for blogging, WordPress has evolved to become one of the web’s most dominant Content Management Systems (CMS). More info on WordPress.
What’s the difference between WordPress.org and WordPress.com?
WordPress.org is free software that anyone can download and use. WordPress.com is a blog hosting service built on the WordPress.org software. WordPress.org is a good choice for individuals and organizations looking for a more powerful, customized WordPress solution. WordPress.com is good for those who simply want to start a blog. Where is WordCamp Ottawa? Where should I park?
WordCamp Ottawa will be at the University of Ottawa April 27th, 2013. See “Venue” for more information.
Should I bring a print-out of my ticket?
If you registered before the final cut-off, a print-out isn’t necessary. Just bring your ID and we’ll take care of the rest!
What time is WordCamp Ottawa and how long does it go?
The conference registration begins at 8:00 a.m. Please arrive around that time so we can get everyone checked in at the registration desk. Officially scheduled events begin at 8:30 and you don’t want to be late – we start on time! Presentations will run from 8:30am to 5:45pm, and we plan to have an after party from 5:45pm on.
What is a Happiness Bar?
The Happiness Bar is a special activity at WordCamp where local and visiting WordPress experts offer help and advice to other attendees who come up to the “bar” with their questions. Many of our speakers are also helping at the Happiness Bar.
Should I bring my laptop?
A laptop is not required, but please feel free to bring any computing devices you are comfortable with, we will have wifi.
Will there be wireless Internet?
Yes! We’ll have details on how to connect at registration.
Can I tweet during the sessions? Can I blog about it afterwards?
Please do! There will be many people tuning in to see what’s going on. Use #wcottawa so we can all follow the conversation. If you plan to live blog and post it on your website, let us know and we’ll post a link to your site when we do our final roundup post. Last year we were trending and we hope to do the same this year!
