Introducing WordCamp Ottawa 2016

Here are some of the things you need to know to make the most of WordCamp Ottawa 2016.

About WordCamps

WordCamps are casual conferences where WordPress beginners, experts and everyone in-between can learn and network.

Where & When

WordCamp Ottawa 2016 will take place at Carleton University, in the gorgeous River Building.

We’ve planned the event over three days. There’s an evening featuring two Optional Pre-camps and there’s the two-day Main Camp.

The Optional Pre-camps take place Thursday, June 16, 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. These include an:

  • Introduction to WordPress for Beginners, for those new to WordPress who wish to learn some of the main concepts and terms before the weekend sessions
  • Introduction to WordPress for Developers, for those who seek a technical overview of WordPress

The Main Camp takes place on:

  • Saturday, June 18, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with 45-minute sessions in tracks suited to Content Creators, Site Creators and Code Creators.
  • Sunday, June 19, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with sessions designed for experts, those seeking specific technical solutions and those who wish to reinforce knowledge they’ve learned

The Pre-camps

Introduction to WordPress for Beginners is designed to help those new to WordPress get their bearings before the Saturday and Sunday sessions.

Introduction to WordPress for Developers is designed to give developers an overview of WordPress, to help them make the most of the Site Creator and Code Creator sessions.

Register for a Pre-camp

Attending a Pre-camp isn’t mandatory. But if you’re a beginner unsure about some of the basics—or a developer new to the WordPress development environment, these camps are designed to help. Register today.

Saturday tracks

Saturday’s speakers and topics will be grouped in tracks that match the knowledge, experience and skills of:

  • Content Creators, who want to learn how to publish content on a WordPress site
  • Site Creators, who want to learn more complex tasks but aren’t designers or developers
  • Code Creators, designers or developers who want to learn about topics such as site set-up, theme design, plugin development, development best practices and more

Sunday sessions

Sessions on Sunday include:

  • Contributor Day, which will offer attendees opportunities to help improve WordPress
  • An Unconference, which will explore the most popular topics of interest with the guidance of knowledgeable experts
  • Site Review Clinic, where experts will review and suggest ways to improve a site’s design, content, structure or functionality
  • Workshops, which will aim to help participants reinforce the knowledge they’ve gained during WordCamp through hands-on exercises

The Happiness Bar and other WordCamp standards

The Happiness Bar, where WordCamp registrants can ask experts technical questions, will be available on Saturday. Lunch is included on Saturday. Ticket prices will be held at close to those of WordCamp Ottawa 2014.
